What It's All About

Thanksgiving... The kick-off to many things.  The holiday season, friends and family gathering, Holiday Card Time, Decorating Time, Christmas Music, Diets plummeting, Sales Sales Sales, Tipping, Caroling, Snow, Everything that goes with Snow.  I could go on....

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it's a beginning.  As corny and generic as it is I tend to sit back and think about what I'm grateful for, who I'm grateful for, and what things I'm not so grateful for.  As those thoughts consume my mind for weeks, on New Years you get the chance to a fresh start.  I don't know why people use the excuse of New Years to start doing things, but they do, and it's a mindset, and it always will be.  So...if you need a boost to quit something, start something, or finish something, use the end and beginning of the year to your advantage.

Besides feeling bankrupt around this time, I feel bipolar at times.  Some mornings i wake up and want to hear Christmas music all day, skip when i walk, sing whenever i know the words, and think of presents I could buy for everyone.  Then there's the days when i want to stab the people in the mall who look happy holiday shopping, kick anyone who could be caught singing to it, tell my mail man he's on his own for getting up to my stairs through the snow, and not write one Christmas Card.  Happiness usually wins thougthe battle in the end though once the Holiday sweets and joyful wine are consumed.

This Thanksgiving I invite you to join me in a time of thankful reflection!  When you hug your parents hug them one second longer, take a minute to say grace (even if someone already started eating), enjoy all the little brats, even play with them, help clean up after dinner, let the person who cooked sit and socialize, when you kiss your significant other kiss them good, bring something to the meal, tell your mom she looks beautiful, and last but not least take a deep breath, look around you....these are the people that have your back no matter what....they love you no matter who you are, and they always will.

Happy Thanksgiving!
